  • I have gone back to my Brooks 9, but my feet hurt an incredible amount with each step.
  • I taped the sides of my feet to provide some level of cushion, but received little comfort.
  • I am unclear how to address this concern other than to give my feet time to heal.

I've been looking over your runs and races. I am no expert and I am not an elite runner. I make up for my lack of talent with lots of miles at key times. However, you mentioned that you are not getting lots of support or advice from the blog. Sadly the blog is much smaller than it used it be. It has nothing to do you your speed, but you also need to ask people if you want their 2 cents.

So here is what I think. You have over 2400 miles for the year so CONGRATS and... Have you ever done that before?? If not - you may be over training. I am shocked how much you ran after back to back races and marathons. The body needs recovery time and could be why your times are not coming down like you would expect (and why you are hurting).

Thank you Dan for responding. I appreciate your comments. I have never run this many miles. I started running a few years ago and am still trying to find my way around the sport. You are probably correct about over training. I am not good at resting. I worry that I will lose what I've gained, but clearly what I am doing is not working either. Thank you for giving me some needed perspective. How does one go about asking other bloggers to give their 2 cents worth of advice?

Of course. I think we are similar age and we live in the same climate (Dayton, Oh here) so I can relate.

As far as asking other running, easy, just comment and ask them to take a look at your training or advice. Many of the people I talk to would be glad to help, but I cannot speak for all.

Have you looked at any training programs specifically?

Hey Nora Jo... I'd highly recommend a book called "Simple Marathon Training" by Jay Johnson.

I've been continuously following the training plan from the book, Hanson's Marathon Training. I've followed the mileage for the Advanced program, but I have not done a good job following the pacing guidelines. In my mind I am always running slow, but according to the book I am running my slow days almost 2 minutes faster per mile. It makes sense now why I can not achieve an improved half-marathon or marathon race day time. I really do need to rest my body.

I'll look into the book, Simple Marathon Training. It's probably time for a change. Thanks!
