Workout: Half Marathon Race

  • I went into this race with one goal, to run my marathon pace. I met that goal!
  • The race looked as if it was going to be a literal wash out. At 6 AM, the clouds opened up to a deluge of rain. This continued for approximately the next hour and a half. Miraculously as I approached my corral, the rain stopped. The remainder of the race was cool and rain free!
  • I stayed with the 2:10 race pacer. It was just the two of us from mile 6 and on. At mile 10, she told me to run my race to the finish. My final 3 miles were at these paces - 8:57 / 8:58 / 8:37.
  • I am grateful that I ran this race because my training up to this point has been incredibly slow. Knowing that the Chicago Marathon is in two weeks, I was just not sure that I'd be able to finish it. This race helped me to realize that I can do it. Running at this pace was so incredibly easy this morning.
